Bangalore: A 17-year-old seminary student was allegedly raped in the city’s north-east suburb by three unidentified men, confirmed the police officials during a press meet in the city on Thursday July 17.

Addressing the reporters Joint Commissioner of Police KV Sharat Chandra said that according to a complaint filed by the victim on Thursday July 17, the incident happened on Wednesday July 16 afternoon when the three accused had barged into the Sisters of Holy Nativity premises at Hennur.

Around 2pm, three persons pressed the calling bell. When the girl, who was alone at that time, opened the door they took out a canister and sprayed something like chilly spray on her. As she fell unconscious, they allegedly raped her, Chandra told the reporters.

The incident occurred when the victim was alone on the ground floor, while three of her other colleagues were in the first floor of the seminary building.

“The victim has been admitted to St John’s Hospital for check-up. We have registered a case of sexual assault against the accused under section 376 of the IPC (Indian Penal Code) and investigation is on,” Chandra said.

Police have launched a hunt to trace the unidentified accused who are absconding.

Elaborating it further, DCP (east) N Sateesh Kumar said that the victim was on the ground floor and two senior sisters who were present in the two-floor building had gone upstairs. The girl had fallen unconscious and the assailants sexually assaulted her.

“The two sisters, who came downstairs later, found the doors ajar. When they went inside, they found her unconscious and in a bad condition. She was shifted to hospital by them,” the DCP said.

The sisters first took her to hospital and then had discussions with their seniors before contacting a local social worker to file a police complaint, police said.

“The girl is in a shock but is recovering. We will be able to take her statement after she recovers. A case of gang-rape has been registered. We will ask the girl if she had seen them properly and can identify the suspects,” police said.

It is also known that the culprits allegedly recorded the incident and threatened the victim to release the video online and demanded money from her, however she could not reciprocate. They then wrote on her left leg the same, which was later washed by the victim’s friend.
