Mangaluru: Nanthur Circle, which continues to be a deathtrap, on Friday killed three persons including a woman and her son, after an over speeding tipper lorry rammed into an electric pole before colliding with a two-wheeler and a car.
The deceased have been identified as Veena (40), a government school teacher from Panambur and her son Nitesh. Additionally a youth Preetham Pinto, from Narampady Church, Kasargod on a motorcycle was killed in the accident. Pillion rider Shwetha suffered injuries.
According to the police, Veena along with her husband, son and daughter were traveling in a car, when their car and a motorcycle were hit by a tipper-lorry. The car was totally damaged. The motorcyclist, teacher and her son died on the spot. The teacher’s husband Krishna Nayak suffered a fracture in the leg, while her daughter Nikita is in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
There was traffic block in the area for more than three hours. Public thronged the spot, in a moment of shock.
The incident also rekindled the harrowing memory of a similar tragedy, where two were killed and many suffered injuries after a fish-laden lorry collided with a private bus last year.
Public Protest
Meanwhile, a large group of people resorted to a protest expressing their anger over the frequent road accidents here. The police had to resort to a lathi charge when the protesters blocked the movement of vehicles.
