Chikkamagaluru: Talking tough, Chikkamagaluru Superintendent of Police Annamalai has said that it is better if the police are allowed to probe into ABVP member Abhishek’s death case.
Stating that the department will not pay heed to any deadline or warnings of protest, the SP, in a press conference on Saturday simply brushed aside the 48 hour deadline set by the ABVP to crack Abhishek death case.
Abhishek, a student of JCBM College of Sringeri had ended life recently owing to campus politics. It is said that he and few others got into a tiff with the NSUI members over orator Chakravarthy Soolibele’s programme that was scheduled to be held and soon police filed case against Abhishek. It is said that in his death, Abhishek had stated that the case has ruined his life.
Following this, the supporting organisation had staged stir. Speaking about the same, the SP said that each and every person has the right to protest in a democracy, but damaging property in the name of protest is not acceptable.
The department will stand by and support the peaceful protesters. But, if the protesters resort to vandalising schools and colleges in the name of seeking justice, then they will be punished,” said the SP adding that 19 persons have been questioned so far, out of which four are having past credentials of creating communal trouble.
The SP assured the general public that probe into Abhishek death case is being held in a transparent and unbiased manner.
