Yadgir: An alleged audio and video of Kanva Mutt pontiff Vidyavaridhi Theertha Swamiji has been leaked, wherein the seer is heard speaking indecently with a woman.
According to reports, the seer and the woman, who is a resident of Mysuru city, exchanged indecent videos and photos with each other during their conversations.
As per the information released by an anonymous individual, the seer has already been married twice and has children from these alliances. The seer has also been accused of acquiring and selling property illegally.
In the leaked audio, the pontiff can be heard inviting the Mysuru-based woman to his Yelahanka branch mutt in Bengaluru.
While it is being speculated that this is a case of honey-trapping, Vidyavaridhi Theertha has said, “This plot has been cooked up by people who don’t like me and can’t stand me. My mobile phone has been misused. I am not the one in the video and my voice has been mimicked. I was also offered a settlement of Rs 1 crore.”
He added, “I have neither seen the woman in the mutt nor spoken to her. This is clearly a trap as some of the mutt followers did not want me to become the pontiff.”
Informing about his next steps, he said, “I will file a defamation case against the culprits and have complete faith that justice will prevail. If it is proven that I have committed a mistake, I’m ready to step down from my position.” He then claimed that a similar incident had happened with the previous senior pontiff.
It can be recalled that Vidyavaridhi Theertha swamiji had become the pontiff of the mutt in 2014, amidst a lot of opposition.
