New Delhi: The Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre has reportedly given its nod for the formation of Telangana State. Congress spokesperson Ajay Maken said that Hyderabad will be the common capital of both states for a period of 10 years.

It was on December 9, 2009, when the then Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram announced that the Centre would begin the process of formation of Telangana. However, the Congress government could not fulfill its commitment.

Amidst high expectations, the UPA partners met at 7 Race Course Road, the residence of the Prime Minister, and endorsed the decision on Telangana unanimously. The Congress Working Committee, along with PM,Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, agreed to the Telangana proposal and passed a resolution for creation of the new state.

Sources say that Telangana will have 10 districts of Andhra Pradesh and Hyderabad will be the joint capital of Telangana and Seemandhra. The formation of the new state will take some time, sources added.

Congress General Secretary and Andhra Pradesh in-charge Digvijaya Singh said that decision has been made keeping in mind a long standing demand of the people of Telangana. “We have kept in mind security, water issues, liabilities, etc. All this will be considered while drafting the Bill.

Hyderabad will be the joint capital of Telangana and Seemandhra.
