Chennai: Unidentified assailants hacked BJP Tamil Nadu unit General Secretary V Ramesh to death near his house in Salem on Friday night. Police said that the 52-year-old Ramesh alias Auditor Ramesh was attacked with sharp-edged weapons and he died on the spot.
According to Salem city police, the incident took place around 10pm. The identity of the assailants and the motive for the attack are under investigation, police added.
Later, BJP functionaries in Salem rushed to the house and held a demonstration against the police. BJP state president Pon Radhakrishnan said that the Hindu leaders are being targeted and the government is not taking these murders seriously, adding that the men produced in court by police in these cases are not the real assailants.
Meanwhile, Sushma Swaraj demanded a probe into the killings of the BJP leaders, saying that this is the third assassination of a Tamil Nadu BJP leader.
