Yangon: Not all heroes wear capes. A Myanmar pilot has proven this saying true today by saving the lives of 89 people who were on board the Myanmar Airlines flight UB-103, after its landing gear failed.
The incident occurred on Sunday morning in Mandalay when the landing gear at the front of the aircraft failed to drop despite several attempts, both through the computer and manually, made by the pilot.
Speaking to AFP, deputy general of Myanmar’s Civil Aviation Department, Ye Htut Aung said that the pilots tried to land the plane twice. They flew around twice and asked to check if the landing gear had dropped. When all their attempts to drop the landing gear failed, they landed the plane with on the rear wheels. The flight was finally grounded at the airport at around 9 AM. None of the 89 persons, including seven crew members, were injured in the incident.
An unverified video of the incident is now being circulated on social media, wherein one can see how the plane was made to land skillfully before its nose tipped over and the plane ground to a halt.
It can be recalled that just a few days ago, a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight crash-landed and slid off a runway during landing at the Yangon airport on Wednesday. As many as 11 passengers were injured in the incident.
