New Delhi: The ruling Congress on Wednesday said it is up to the US government to decide on issuing visa to Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.
“We have nothing to do with it. It is up to the US govt to issue visa to Narendra Modi,” Congress general secretary Digvijaya Singh told reporters on Wednesday.
“Also, whether Modi gets a US visa or not, does not make a difference to the Congress,” Digvijaya Singh said.
At least 65 Indian lawmakers have reportedly written to U.S. President Barack Obama for continuing the “policy” of denying of an American visa to Modi.
Well adding further Senior CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury on Wednesday denied having signed any letter seeking denial of US visa for Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi, saying it suggested a “cut and paste” job.
“I deny having signed any such letter. It is neither in my character nor in the principles of my party – the CPI(M) – to petition any sovereign country on matters that fall strictly within the sovereign domain of that country,” he said in a statement in New Delhi.
“It is this very principle that leads us to strongly oppose and denounce any external interference into India’s internal affairs undermining its sovereignty,” Yechury said.
Well on the other side Americas dilemma: to give Narendra Modi visa or not
The United States has not changed its position on a visa for Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi, but pressure is being mounted on it from both outside and inside the country.
BJP president Rajnath Singh, who is currently touring the United States, has said he plans to raise the
issue with lawmakers during his meetings on the Capitol Hill.
