Hacker cancels attempt to delete Zuckerberg’s Facebook page

New York: A hacker, who had recently said that he would delete the page of Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg while live streaming it, has now said that he will not be doing so.

Chang Chi-yuan, a 23-year-old hacker with around 26,000 followers on his Facebook page, had, a few days back, announced that he would be deleting Mark Zuckerberg’s Facebook page and live stream the entire event. He has, however, decided not to do so after his announcement received global attention.

Chang is a well-known hacker in Taiwan and has made some money from Facebook’s bug bounty programme, an ongoing programme where Facebook rewards experts for pointing out weaknesses and bugs in its system.

He told Bloomberg News that he was cancelling the live feed and has reported the bug (that would have presumably allowed him to delete Zuckerberg’s page) to Facebook. “I will show proof when I get bounty from Facebook,” he said.

On Friday, the hacker posted on his Facebook page saying that he was cancelling the attack on Zuckerberg’s page and the live stream as he wanted to avoid unnecessary problems. In the post, he acknowledged that there will be people who question his abilities, but said that he shouldn’t try to prove himself by “toying with Zuck’s account”.

Zuckerberg’s page was previously hacked by another individual in 2011, who used it to encourage users to invest in Facebook and turn it into a “social business”.
