Canberra, March 22 (IANS) Five people were killed when a light plane crashed Saturday at Caboolture airfield, north of Brisbane in the Australian state of Queensland, the media reported.

The Cessna 206, used for skydiving, was just taking off when it crashed and went up in flames at Caboolture airfield around 11.30 a.m.,the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) reported.

The pilot, two instructors, and two customer sky-divers were on board at the time of the crash.

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau are carrying out an investigation into the crash.

“We don’t know what happened and why it occurred but there could have been a mechanical failure,” Bryan Carpenter, safety officer at Caboolture airfield, told ABC News 24.

“The aircraft was a Cessna 206. It’s used for skydiving here at Caboolture and it had just departed the runway six. I’m not sure why it turned off heading to the left and it was at a low level and impacted with the ground and immediately caught on fire. There were no survivors,” he added.
