Islamabad: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday dismissed as “non-maintainable” a petition seeking registration of a treason case against former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif after his recent remarks on the 2008 Mumbai terror attack that left 166 people dead.

The court asked the petitioner, advocate Aftab Virk, to approach the relevant forum with his complaint, Dawn reported.

Earlier in an interview, Sharif said: “Militant organisations are active. Call them non-state actors, should we allow them to cross the border and kill 150 people in Mumbai? Explain it to me. Why can’t we complete the trial?”

Virk, in his petition, alleged that Sharif’s remarks on the Mumbai attack amounted to treason as he had maligned national institutions as well as the country.

The court is yet to decide on the admissibility of another similar petition filed by Pakistan Awami Tehreek’s Khurram Nawaz Gandapur.
