carlo acutis 13102020Rome: Carlo Acutis, a teenager who has been referred to as a “computer genius”, could very well attain sainthood, now that he has been beatified by the Catholic Church on Saturday in Assisi, Italy.

Carlo Acutis was the son of Italian parents and was born in London. The family later moved to Milan, where he died of leukaemia in 2006 at the age of 15.

In Catholicism, Beatification is the penultimate step in the sainthood process and bestows on the candidate the prefix of “blessed”. This also means that one miracle has been confirmed the candidate’s name.

According to a report by CNN, the Vatican had announced that Acutis would be beatified after they received claims that he cured a Brazilian boy who was suffering from a rare disease through intercession.

For a candidate to attain sainthood, the formal act of declaring someone a saint, another miracle needs to be confirmed by the Church.

As a teenager, Acutis used his skills to create a website that traced the history of Eucharistic miracles. This has been used by more than 10,000 parishes worldwide, according to the Vatican.

It is said that the youngster was religious from a very young age even though his mother had been to mass only “three times… in her life.”

The Vatican has described Acutis as a “computer genius with a love for the Eucharist”. It is also believed that he is the youngest modern-day person to be beatified.
