Udupi: In a tragic incident, a Yakshagana artist died on the stage, half way through his performance, at Yalajitha village of Byndoor on Sunday.
The deceased is Hudugodu Chandrahas (52). He was working in Kaladhara Yakshagana Balaga, Jalavalli and was playing a guest appearance in the play. In the middle of the play, Chandrahas collapsed and died on the spot due to heart attack.
Chandrahas was a famous artist in Badagutittu form of Yakshagana and had shot to fame after playing the role of ‘Salva’ in ‘Bhishma Vijaya’. Ironically, on his last day, he was staging the role of Salva and was delivering his lines when he collapsed.
The Yakshagana of Sunday was being streamed live on his FB page and was hence captured clearly. Though he was rushed to Byndoor hospital, he could not be saved.
His son Pradeep too was playing a role in the same event. Over the last three years, Chandrahas had been playing only the guest role.
