Kundapur: Parents of children studying in Moodu Valthur anganawadi that comes under the Kavradi gram panchayat here, complained on Saturday January 2, that the rice supplied to the children was unfit for consumption.
The Women’s and Children Welfare Department had provided the rice sacks weighing 20kg each under ICDS project.
It is learnt that the sacks marked to be distributed in November 2015 were distributed a month later. As the parents and anganawadi workers found worms in the rice sacks, the issue was brought to the notice of the Gram Panchayat.
“The officials conduct random checking of rice. But it was not possible to check every bag of rice. While 90 per cent of bags contained good quality rice, it is possible that the remaining bags might have rice with worms or substandard rice because sometimes some bags get wet,” an officer said.
The angry parents were assured that the rice sacks be replaced with new ones immediately.
