Suhas, son of Shridhar Murthy and Suma Mayya and native of Kundapur taluk's Balkur area, was in the 4th year of his engineer degree in Bengaluru. As he wanted to return to his hometown on March 7, he boarded at a private bus run by Durgamba, which plies between Bengaluru and Kundapur.

According to his mother Suma Mayya, Suhas had chest pains during his journey from Bengaluru to Kundapur and informed the bus conductor of the same. However, the bus conductor allegedly neither took him to a hospital nor did he take any measures to help him. As no one, including bus conductor, intervened, Suhas died in the bus.
