Udupi: Two witnesses in the Bhaskar Shetty murder case are reported to have received threat calls from an unknown person.

The witnesses, Arun Kumar(43) resident of Nandalike, Karkala and Sathish Poojary, appeared before the Udupi District and Sessions Court on August 16, to give their statements in connection with the murder of businessman Bhaskar Shetty.

While the two were out for lunch, Arun received a call from an unknown individual who threatened to kill his mother if the duo gave their witness statements to court. A few minutes later, Sathish received a call from the same individual but, he left the call unanswered out of fear.

The man who made the threat call is said to have spoken in Hindi.

The Udupi Town Police on Friday, August 17, registered a case based on the complaint filed by Arun.

It may be recalled that both the witnesses in the case are neighbours of Niranjan Bhat, one of the accused in the murder case. They claimed to have noticed smoke emitting from Niranjan’s compound where Bhaskar’s dead body was allegedly being burned.

The three accused in the case, Rajeshwari Shetty, Navanith Shetty, and Niranjan Bhat, are currently in the Bengaluru Central Jail.
