Udupi: State Minister for Energy and and chairman of State Congress Campaign Committee DK Shivakumar paid a visit to the Sri Krishna Mutt on Wednesday, May 2 to offer prayers to Lord Krishna. He was accompanied by his wife Usha Shivakumar.

Speaking to media persons after visiting the Sri Krishna Mutt, DK Shivakumar said, “I have tremendous faith in Lord Krishna. I have visited the Math on behalf of the party as well as our government. It is not important who has visited the Math and who has not. Both Paryaya Swamiji as well as Pejawar Swamiji have blessed me.”

Speaking on the elections, he said that the Congress party is contesting the election on the basis of development. “This time, the election is between Dharma and Adharma. The Congress is doing Dharma while the BJP is resorting to Adharma. The BJP is dividing the people in the name of religion,” he said.

On PM Narendra Modi not visiting Sri Krishna Temple on May 1, DK Shivakumar said that visiting or not visiting the Math was his personal choice and he would not like to comment on it. “It is true that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah too did not visit Sri Krishna Math, but he has not closed the Muzarai department. Rather Siddaramaiah government has provided more funds and power to the Muzarai department. We have respect for all religions also. We will get a clear majority with 130 seats, he said.

When asked about the IT raid on Congress candidate in Uttara Kannada, DK Shivakumar said that the union government led by Modi has continuously targeted the Congress leaders by carrying IT raids. The BJP has to tender an answer on this, he added.

To a question on Modi praising JD(S) supremo Deve Gowda during his visit to Udupi, he said that let Modi and Amit Shah praise Deve Gowda, the latter had already spoken about the differences JD(S) has with the BJP.

District Congres President Janardhan Thonse, Harish Kini, Kishan Hegde, Ashok Kodavoor, Dinesh Puthran and other leaders were present during the visit.
