Vision policy committee has been set up in state: Health Minister Sreeramulu

Udupi: A vision committee has been set up in the state to conduct free eye checkups and treatment camps in all the districts, said Health Minister B Sreeramulu.

He was addressing a gathering at the inauguration of the Free Eye Distribution and Ophthalmology Registration Programme of the Free Ophthalmology and Surgical Camp organized on Saturday, September 28. The event was held at the Prasad Nethralaya and was organised by various organizations including the Shankar Family Trust, Parivar Community Development Trust, Udupi Nethralaya Super Specialty Eye Hospital, Ophthalmology Charitable Trust, Department of Health and Family Welfare.

To improve the health of the poor in the coming days, the minister said that the Department of Health and Family Welfare has promised to implement various health services in the entire state. “The Prasad Nethralaya is working to provide vision to the poor by conducting free eye checkup camps in various places. The private hospitals in the state should provide free camps and help the poor,” minister Sreeramulu said.

MLA Raghupathy Bhat, in his presidential address, said that under the Health Karnataka and Ayushmann projects, it was mandatory to obtain a recommendation from a government hospital to go to private hospitals for further treatment, which cause the poor to suffer. “The Health Minister has promised to cancel the requirement for a letter of recommendation. Free eye checks camps will be organised every Sunday in every arbitration and gram panchayat,” he added.

Dr. Prasad Nethralaya Medical Director Dr Krishna Prasad welcomed the gathering and delivered the keynote address. Balakrishna Muddody compered the programme and Hospital administrator M V Acharya proposed a vote of thanks.

Zilla Panchayat president Dinakara Babu and vice president Sheila K Shetty, G. Shankar Family Trust pioneer G. Shankar, BJP district president Mattaru Ratnakar Hegde and Manipal Higher Education Academy (MAHE) Pro-Chancellor Dr. HS Ballal, Taluk Panchayat member Nalini Pradeep Kumar, businessman Suresh Shetty Gurmey, Dharmaprasad Rai, K Raghuram Rao, Harish Shetty Cherkadi were also present.
