Udupi: The uproar in the Udupi CMC during the last general body meeting happened to rock the consecutive meet held on Monday as well.

Manjunathaiah, Udupi Municipal Council Commissioner said that he has spoken to the Directorate of Municipal Administration and its official will visit the CMC between August 12 to 14 in connection with the unruly behavior of the Congress Council members during the last meeting.

He was speaking during the CMC general meeting held at Sathyamurthy Hall on 31st July here after Vasanthi Shetty, CMC Councillor probed about the action taken with regard to the unruly behavior of the Congress councilors who went to the extent of assaulting an outsider who had entered the hall.

She said that CMC President Meenakshi Madhava Bannanje was solely responsible for the attack as she did nothing to curb the pandemonium. There was uproar on the issue by the both opposition and ruling councilors.

Replying to the councilors, Meenakshi Madhava Bannanje said that the incident was sponsored and pre-planned, only to bring disgrace to the CMC.

Ruling councilor and former President of CMC said that BJP was enjoying the entire episode of assault and even prevented the President from intervening.

It may be recalled that the last general body meeting of CMC held in June had ended abruptly following a fight between the ruling party councillors, which led to the manhandling of a man who had come to watch the meeting proceedings.

The problem started when a Congress councillor charged that councillor Geetha Shet had inaugurated the road laid using the funds released by the MLA. In this regard, Geetha tendered her resignation demanding justice, but had meanwhile also called in her confidante Rony D’Mello, an outsider as a witness for her innocence and claimed that she was not part of the inauguration of the road.

This fuelled a sense of commotion in the house as members raised objection to the entry of D’Mello without permission. When D’Mello was about to start his statement, the Congress members pushed him out and assaulted him.

The issue will now be heard by Directorate of Municipal Administration officials.
