Udupi: Udupi, which is considered to be the cradle of meritorious students, is now likely to get a new medical college with 150 medical seats from the next academic year 2020-21.

According to sources in the state’s medical education department, the government has proposed a total of seven medical colleges from the new academic year.

Among them, four are coming up with the assistance of the central government while three with internal funding from the state government.

DCM CN Ashwatta Narayan, who is also the state medical education minister, confirmed the developments. He made it clear that three state-funded medical colleges are coming up in Udupi, Bengaluru Rural, and Ramanagar districts of the state.

A medical college in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts had been a long-pending demand of the locals. With hundreds of students clearing the NEET UG every year from this region, this new college is expected to help such students.
