Udupi: A Kundapura native, who recently returned from Maharashtra, passed away on May 14. He was confirmed COVID-19 positive on Saturday, May 16 evening, after his swabs were sent for testing as he had coronavirus symptoms.
The 54-year-old man was reportedly quarantined after he complained of illness and was admitted to the KMC Hospital in Manipal on the evening of May 13. He died of a cardiac arrest on the evening of May 14.
The man was treated in the isolation ward as he had trouble breathing. Since the day he was hospitalized, all necessary precautions were taken as per the government guidelines. His throat swabs were collected and sent for testing, the reports of which came back positive for COVID-19 on May 16 evening.
As per reports, a total of five people, including the man’s wife and two children, have been quarantined at the SDM quarantine centre in Udyawar, Deputy Commissioner G Jagadeesh informed.
Additionally, 57 of the man’s primary contacts and 37 secondary contacts are also under observation.
The DC clarified that all the doctors and nurses who came in contact with the deceased were using PPE and other precautionary measures were also undertaken. However, three staff members of the KMC Hospital, Manipal have been quarantined.
