Udupi ranks first in state for early disposal of cases under cVigil applications: DC

Udupi: “As many as 112 cases were registered under cVigil applications, of which 77 cases were inquired and disposed of. Remaining were found to be fake”, said Hephsiba Rani Korlapati, Deputy Commissioner of Udupi district.

Addressing a press meet at DC office, Rajathadri, Manipal here on Tuesday, April 9, the DC said that the district stands first in the state for early disposal of cases registered under cVigil applications. As many as 66 cases were disposed of within 100 minutes.

The DC said that all the preparation for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections were underway in the Udupi – Chikkamagaluru constituency. The first stage, as well as the second stage of training for all booths level election officials, were completed. The training will be provided for Micro observers on April 10.

She said the work on the commissioning of the EVMs with symbol loading is being held in the presence of BEL technical staff. The preparations for EVMs and VVPATs have also begun in all the four assembly constituencies.

The government has released Rs 48.91 lac for the repair work of the polling booths. The polling infrastructure is offered in all 1,111 polling booths in the district. The voters’ slip for 6,48,885 voters have been distributed and the remaining voters will receive the voting slips within the next two days, she said.

Korlapati said that Udupi district has 25 Sakhi-women’s polling booths and each assembly constituency will have five Sakhi booths. There are three polling booths completely managed by persons with disabilities and one ethnic polling booth.

Rs 23,50,200 lac cash was seized in 13 cases in connection with the violation of poll model code of conduct. All seized amount has been released after the verification led by CEO team, she said.

About 15,809.86 litres of liquor was seized by the Excise department and another 11.70 litres were seized by the district police, she said.

Meanwhile, as many as 3,695 weapons were surrendered and nine were exempted. As many as 21 weapons are yet to be recovered, she said.
To a query, the DC said that due to the feast of the Christian community, they are exempted from election duty following the representation by the community to Election Commission.

Additional DC Vidya Kumari, Information department official Shah and Expenditure observer Sachin were present during the press meet.
