Udupi native imprisoned for carrying banned medicines released by Kuwait court

Udupi: Shankar Poojary, a resident of Basrur, near Kundapur, who was arrested for allegedly carrying banned drug parcel to Kuwait about seven months ago, has been released by the court of Kuwait State, Arabian Gulf.

Shankar Poojary, who worked at Kuwait’s Agriculture and Food Product Company, arrived in May for a ten-day holiday to his native place. Then he returned to Kuwait and received a parcel given by a man of Udupi on his colleague’s request.

Police raided Shankar Poojary who landed at Kuwait airport and seized the parcel in his hand. When they checked it, they found out that there were prohibited pills in the packet. He was immediately arrested and imprisoned by the police. Udupi district administration and others had sought the release of Shankar Poojary in connection with the case.

Jyothi Poojary, wife of Shankar Poojary said that her husband has been informed about the release. “Kuwait’s businessman Pushpa Raj has called me. It is clear that tomorrow my husband is going to his company, where he will continue to work or return home to India. His visa period is up to February 4,” she said.

Kuwait’s Billava Sangha and Tulu Koota have also worked hard in the past.
