Udupi: District JD(S) spokesperson, Pradeep G Bailoor allegedly committed suicide by hanging on Thursday night at his rented house in Korangrapady.
Bailoor (37) was also serving as the executive officer at Birthi Co-operative Society in Udupi.
According to a report by DH, while no suicide note was found, police believe that he took the extreme step due to a financial crisis.
He reportedly took the extreme step when his parents left for Tirthahalli.
A preliminary investigation into the case has revealed that Bailoor was deep in debt as he had signed as witness for many who had taken loans from private and unauthorised money lenders.
It is said that the money lenders began harassing Bailoor when the borrowers defaulted on their loans.
The DH report also states that, according to the police, Bailoor was also depressed as he was divorced.
A case stands registered in the Udupi Town police station.
