Udupi is Open Defecation-Free district; CM to present award

Manipal: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will be presenting an award to Udupi district which has been declared as an open defecation free district on October 2, said Dinakar Babu, Zilla Panchayat President.

Speaking to media persons at Dr. V.S. Acharya Memorial Hall, DC Office, Rajathadri here on Thursday, April 27 he said that a letter of appreciation has been given by the Zilla Panchayat to all the grama panchayats in this regard.

The proposals sent by 28 gram panchayats have been approved for the implementation of waste management. Training has also been given to 286 Self Help Group members with regard to use of cloth carry bags instead of plastic carry bags.

In Zilla Panchayat office e-office system has been established owing to which file clearance is being done effectively. A separate toll free number has been provided for the clean water subject and special care will be taken to tackle the problem of drinking water in the district

A separate public complaint solution department has been started at Zilla Panchayat office, so that public can get their complaints resolved as early as possible.

Dinakar Babu said that since last one year, the Udupi Zilla Panchayat has hardly had any corruption complaints. The funds from the government has been utilized in all departments like public education department, Youth Empowerment department, district Health and Family Development department, Women and child development department, agriculture department and so on.

Zilla Panchayat vice president Sheela K Shetty, Standing Committee President Babu Shetty, Shashikanth Padubidri and other members of Zilla Panchayat were present.
