Udupi: A house on Harishchandra Road, Beedinagudde near here, was robbed on Thursday, September 12 afternoon. Several lakhs of rupees in cash was stolen from the house.
Sunanda Manik Patil, a resident of Udupi Venkatramana temple, had gone to the Mukunda Krupa School at 12.15 pm yesterday to give her children their lunch when the incident occurred.
In the complaint lodged by the Udupi city police, they said that Rs 22 lakhs in cash and half a kilogram of silver was stolen from the kitchen cabinet.
It is suspected that a man, who had previously worked for Sunanda’s husband in his shop, is the culprit. Apparently, two months ago, he had recently been fired for behaving suspiciously.
It is alleged that the suspect returned with a friend from his hometown to commit the crime.
The police are currently on the hunt for the two, who are believed to have escaped to Mumbai by train.
