Udupi: The district administration has henceforth banned holding of protests, meetings and other celebrations at the Chittaranjan Circle. The decision was taken during a meeting held by the district Deputy Commissioner (DC) Priyanka Mary Francis at the DC court in Manipal near here.

The decision was taken considering the fact that Chittaranjan Circle is at the heart of Udupi city and is very close to the post office, Krishna Math, Government Women’s Hospital and the commercial point. Moreover, vehicles have to pass through the Chittaranjan Circle to make it to Mithra Priya Hospital, Haji Abdulla Memorial Hospital and so on. The circle is also usually crowded with a large number of customers and vehicles.

After protests and meetings were stopped from being held at the Clock Tower near the Service Bus stand, several political parties and other organisations have been holding protests and other programmes at the Chittaranjan Circle (after obtaining permission) which disturbs the general public as well as the vehicles.

In her order, the DC said that the Satyagraha Katte near the DC’s office at Rajathadri, Manipal, is available to the people and the concerned organisations for the purpose of protests.
