Udupi: The district Deputy Commissioner (DC) will be visiting several areas across the district in order to solve the various problems pertaining to the National Highways, said Kaup MLA Lalaji Mendon.

The announcement was made during the Udupi Taluk’s 19th General Meeting held at the Taluk Office Hall, Udupi on Wednesday, August 28. Newly-inducted Udupi Taluk President Neetha Gururaj presided over the meeting.

Udupi Taluk member Dinesh Kotian said that people were facing problems due to the incomplete NH-66 in Padubidri. Keeping aside political differences, members voiced their concerns over the incomplete bridge and service road of the highway.

Another Taluk member, Michael Ramesh D’Souza, said that the people had been suffering every day for several years due to the absence of proper street lights or a bus stand.

The DC, represented at the meeting by MLA Lalalji Mendon, said that he would visit the areas along NH-66 and NH-169A in order to find a solution to the problems.

Dr Sunitha Shetty requested the officials to solve the problem of non-payment of benefits under the pension scheme and to hold an “Adalat” for the same.

Vice President Bhujanga Shetty said that beneficiaries were not receiving the benefits based on the amount in the treasury. Udupi Tehsildar Pradeep Kurdekar said that problems involving records and accounts will be solved very soon, after which the amount will be dispensed to the intended beneficiaries.

Dinesh Kotian emphasized on the need for a solution regarding waste disposal as well as the need to survey government land in order to distribute such land among the homeless people in Padebettu.

On the occasion, newly-appointed Udupi Urban Development Authority Commissioner K Raju was felicitated.

Prior to the meeting, condolences were paid to the late Taluk member Umesh Shetty and deceased former Union minister Jaipal Reddy.

Sharath Rao was also unanimously elected to the post of Social Standing Committee Chairman on the occasion.
