Udupi: The district administration has geared up to stay prepared for the possible calamities that could be encountered during the rainy season.
Addressing a meeting on these lines, Deputy Commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis said that the district has to be in a position to respond to any kind of calamity during the monsoon.
In this direction, 24×7 helpline with nodal officers will be opened in all the 7 taluks of the district. Divers and other required professionals will be pressed into action in the district to combat eventualities. The DC has asked the officials to make sure that there are boats kept ready in areas which may be inundated.
She said that report with regard to compensations in case of loss of life, livestock and property would be prepared soon and she directed all the Tahshildars to ensure that compensation dispensation takes place without any delay.
She specifically asked the GP officials and Mines and Geology officials to make sure that the abandoned quarry sites are fenced and secured so that no untoward incidents take place.
Considering the fact that several students have landed in watery grave over the last several years during the monsoons while reaching schools in far flung areas, the DC directed the officials of the education department to make sure that dangerous spots in rural areas are taken care so that students walk their way safely to schools during the monsoon.
She also directed the DDPI to convene meeting with the private schools managements as well before the monsoons.
