Udupi: Kempe Gowda was responsible for the establishment and development of Bengaluru City and his contribution was great, said Meenakshi Madhav Bannanje, President of Udupi City Municipal Council.
She was speaking after inaugurating a programme on Nadaprabhu Kempe Gowda of Bengaluru organised by the district administration, Kannada and Culture Department along with Adi Udupi Government High School near here on July 21. She said he was not only responsible to the development of Bengaluru but was also instrumental in the development of ponds and other water resources thus helping the farmers. “He got the vision of building a big futuristic city during a hunting expedition from Yelahanka to Shivanasamudra. His role in the development of Bengaluru was great and the students should follow his initiative in growth of villages, city, and the nation”, she enthused.
G Anuradha, KAS, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Udupi district was the chief guest. “Nada Prabhu Kempe Gowda, five centuries ago, laid the foundation for the development of Bengaluru which earlier was Bangana Kadu now converted into Silicon Valley of India. His role in the growth of Bengaluru is remembered now also and hence the government proposed to celebrate his memorial ‘Kempegowda Day’ for the first time in Karnataka”, she said.
The programme began with the singing of Nada Geethe (State Anthem) by Shankardas Chatkal. Kannada and Culture Department Assistant Director Ravi Kumar welcomed the gathering. Shankardas Chatkal also compered the programme.
On the occasion, bicycles were distributed to the students of the Adi Udupi Government High School by Meenakshi Bannanje and G Anuradha.
Nalini Devi, lecturer at Hiriyadka Government PU College was the resource person.
Kavitha, headmistress of the school, Ravi Kumar and T K Ganesh were present on the dais.
