Udupi: "We have taken all the measures for a smooth and fair polling process on April 18 in 15 Udupi-Chickmagaluru Lok Sabha constituencies. The polling will be held from 7 AM to 6 PM," said Chief Election Officer and Deputy Commissioner of Udupi district, Hephsiba Rani Korlapati.
Addressing a press meet at her office in Rajathadri District Offices Complex, Manipal, on Tuesday, April 16, Korlapati said that there are 15,13,231 voters, out of which 7,38,503 are male voters, 7,74,674 are female voters and 54 transgender voters. "There are total 1,837 polling booths in Udupi-Chickmagaluru constituencies. Total voters in Kundapur are 2,03,279, out of which 97,692 are men, 1,05,585 are women and 2 transgenders. Total polling stations are 222. In Udupi, the total number of voters are 2,09,504, out of which 1,01,386 are men, 1,08,116 are women and 2 are transgenders. Total polling booths are 226. In Kaup, there are a total number of 1,84,101 voters, out of which 87,704 are men, 96,384 are women and 13 are transgenders. Total polling booths are 208. In Karkala the total number of voters are 1,83,528, out of which 87,915 are men, 95,612 are women and 1 transgender. Total polling booths are 209. In Sringeri the total number of voters are 1,65,498, out of which 81,605 are men, 83,889 are women, and 4 transgenders. Total polling booths are 256. In Mudigere the total number of voters are 1,68,774, out of which 83,054 are men, 85,711 are women, and 9 transgender. In Chickmagaluru there are 2,14,958 voters, out of which 1,06,964 are men, 1,07,971 are women and 23 transgenders. Total polling booths are 257. In Tarikere the total number of voters are 1,83,589, out of which 92,183 are men and 91,406 are women," said the Deputy Commissioner.
"The voters’ list copies are given to all recognized national political parties as well as state political parties. All contesting candidates are given the voters' list as well," she added.
Twenty five polling stations have been identified for SAKHI, two polling stations are set for special PWDs and two are in tribal areas. Differently abled voters will be provided special chairs, magnified glass, ramp and vehicle on demand," Korlapati said.
"Polling booth officers, micro observers and security personnel are appointed in order to ensure a fair, peaceful and successful polling. There are 996 Presiding Officers and 996 Asst Presiding Officers. As many as 1,972 3rd and 4th polling officer, 952 D class servicemen, 1,367 security officials and 206 micro observers. There are 45 flying squads for Udupi and 17 flying squads for Chickmagaluru district. As many as 27 Static Surveillance team for Udupi and 33 for Chickmagaluru," she added.
"Rs 25,30,910 of cash seized has been seized up to April 15, out of which Rs. 23,50,290 has been returned after verifying the related documents. The Excise department has seized 15,853.69 liters of liquor worth Rs 64,38,722, with 3 truck and 4 two wheelers. The Police department has seized 11.7 litre of liquor worth Rs 6,107," said Hephsiba Rani Korlapati.
"Sale of liquor is banned from 6 PM of April 16 to 6 PM of April 19. Exist poll predictions are banned till April 19," she added.
