Udupi: The district BJP staged protest against CMC Commissioner D Manjunathaiah demanding his ouster from the post of Municipal Commissioner on Friday, October 6. The protesters took out a protest walk from BJP office at Kadiyali to CMC office in the city, holding placards and shouting slogans.
Addressing the gathering, former MLA Raghupathy Bhat said that the BJP is demanding his removal mainly because he is corrupt and that he lacks technical knowledge required to handle the position effectively.
"He can be called the most corrupt Commissioner in history of the CMC. Majunathaiah belongs to the education department and hence has very little knowledge about the functioning of the CMC. Education Minister has called back all officers from his department working in other departments back to the parent department. I have requested minister Tanveer Sait to depute him from Udupi Municipality to education department at the earliest," he said adding that the Municipal Commissioner was responsible for removing pandal set up by the BJP for holding protest against sand mafia.
He attacked Manjunathaiah further raking up issue of rampant corruption in the CMC and said that people have to shell out money even to get birth and death certificates.
He urged Pramod Madhwaraj MLA and district in-charge minister to immediately remove D Manjunathiah from the post, failing which protest will be intensified.
Mattar Rathnakar Hegde District BJP President said that corruption has increased by many folds during Manjunathaiah's tenure.
The BJP members brought the garlanded images of the officer and also an effigy in procession to protest site and them handed over a memorandum to CMC President Meenakshi Madhav Bannanje.
The BJP activists had also started a post card movement under which signed postcards will be sent to education minister Tanveer Sait and Principal Secretary.
Yashpal Suvarna CMC Councillor and Vice President of District BJP, Shreesha Nayak Yuva Morcha President, Kuilady Suresh Nayak and Kuthyar Naveen Shetty, Geethanjali Suvarna, Akshath Shetty, Shymala Kunder, Veena, Nayana Ganesh, Sulochana Bhat and other elected representatives and members of BJP participated.
During the protest, BJP had an embarrassing moment when a lady shouted out slogans against the BJP. The lady identified as Usha Naik was reportedly upset with the party, which compelled her to act in this manner.
