Udupi: The district administration has plans to create jobs for the differently – abled persons in the district and they may be engaged in a big way while the district administration takes up project to segregate the waste.
Speaking after inaugurating free distribution of Appliances for Person With Disabilities under CSR Initiative of Engineers India Ltd (EIL) in association with Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India with the support of District Administratio, Udupi, Disabled And Senior Citizen Welfare Department, Indian Red Cross Society, Udupi District Branch and District Disability Rehabilitation Centre, Udupi held at Lions Bhavan, Brahmagiri, here on Wednesday, Deputy Commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis said that once the project on segregation of recyclable and reusable material takes off there would be requirement for manpower to separate the materials.
“The disabled persons can take up this work as they can remain at one place. There is no need of any educational qualifications nor any restrictions on their age. Anyone can take up this work. It will help disabled persons to earn and become economically independent,” she said adding that empowerment of persons with disabilities is a major area that needs attention, attention and dedication.
A total of 371 pre-identified beneficiaries with different kind of disabilities were provided with aid and assistive devices by ALIMCO at a cost of Rs. 40 lakh approximately under CSR initiative of Engineers India Ltd.
Various assistive aid and appliances for different kind of disabilities will be distributed in the camp that includes Battery Operated Motorized Tricycles, Battery operated Wheel Chairs Conventional Tricycles and Wheelchairs, Crutches (Axilla/Elbow), Walking Sticks, Rollators for Orthopedically Imparied persons, Behind The Ear – Hearing Aid machines and Smart Canes, Smart Phone, Tablets, Daisy Player, Braille Cane for Visually Impaired beneficiaries, MSIED kit for children’s with special needs in the camp.
Anupam Prakash, Manager and unit Head ALIMCO delivered the keynote address. K. Swaminathan DCM EIL Mangalure and Basrur Rajeev Shetty Chairman of IRCS, Karnataka State Branch, Dr. Umesh Prabhu Chairman, IRCS, Udupi district, Shri Niranjan Bhat DDWO, Udupi and others were present.
