Udupi: A hotel owner and a customer at the hotel have been arrested by the Kundapur Police for attempting to assault the Kundapur Assistant Commissioner and IAS Probationary official while performing election duty on late night on April 9.
Electoral Officer of this constituency, Bhoobalan and probationary IAS officer Poovita who visited a popular hotel called Sahana Arcade Hotel on complaint from the public with regard to violation of model code of conduct were obstructed from performing their duties.
They were capturing video footage in the hotel when some customers objected to it. This led to altercation between the customers as well as the officials, it is said.
While video graphing the proceedings, the hotel owner pulled the AC’s gunmen and prevented the officials from discharging their duty. Bhoobalan and Poovita complained to the Kundapur Police Station and the Hotel owner Surendra Shetty and customer Mahesh Acharya were arrested.
Action would be initiated against the accused as per the directions of Election Commission for assaulting on-duty officials and obstructing from discharging their duties, said Bhoobalan, Assistant Commissioner.
