Two men die in quarry mishap in Karkala

Karkala: Two persons died on the spot in a tragic incident at Hebri near here in a quarry on August 12.

Sanjeeva (35) who was working as a driver in a quarry and a native of Uttar Pradesh, Jagadish (43), a loader are the victims. The quarry is located at Shivapura, Kalmunda near Hebri is owned by Prasanna Sooda.

It is said that a lorry had just finished loading gravel stones into a bunker for crushing. While reversing, the lorry driver rammed into the bunker. Due to the impact of the collision the bunker toppled over the driver and loader.

Both were crushed and were trapped in the debris. Locals nearby were trying to clear the debris and retrieve the bodies when reports last came in. Hebri Police and Karkala Circle Inspector Jagannath arrived at the spot.

It is learnt that the locals of the area had previously opposed the quarry operation in the area and approached the Lokayukta.
