Udupi: The exemption of toll fee for local registration vehicles (KA 20) at Sasthana and Hejamady toll plazas has been extended till September end.

The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by DC Priyanka Mary Francis here on Saturday, August 18 in presence of officials from the National Highway Authority of India, Navyuga Construction company (contractor), elected representatives and leaders of some organizations.

The contract company Navayuga had decided to levy toll on local vehicles from August 16. Leaders lambasted the representatives of Navyuga Construction company for their unilateral decision and said that no force can stop the voice of the locals.

DC Priyanka Mary Francis said that the NHAI officials have complained to the Chief Secretary of the state government that Udupi District DC and Superintendent of Police are not supporting the NHAI’s toll collection at Hejmady and Sasthan toll plazas. She also said that the district administration cannot instruct anybody to either start or stop toll collection.

After long discussions, the NHAI and Navayuga agreed to postpone toll collection to September end.
