Three arrested on charges of cattle smuggling

Udupi: Three people were arrested by the Ajekar police near Karkala, for transporting cattle from Davanagere to Kerala via Mangaluru, in a lorry.

The Ajekar police were carrying out inspection at the Kaduhole checkpost, which comes within the station limits. During the inspection, the police stopped a container lorry arriving from Hebri, and found 17 cattle in the container.

The police immediately seized the container lorry and arrested Raza Bhaksh, Ibrahim Sabian and Jafar Sadik alias Abdul Munaf Sab. All the arrested are from Davanagere.

During interrogation, the accused have admitted that they had stolen the cattle from barns and were transporting them to Kerala, to slaughter them for meat.

Ajekar police have registered a case, and the culprits have been sent to judicial custody.
