Task force to be set up for tourism development in district: Basavaraj Bommai

tourism bommai 20Udupi: A separate task force will be set up to further develop tourism in the Udupi district, said home and district in-charge minister Basavaraj Bommai.

He was addressing the gathering on the occasion of World Tourism Day at the District Secretariat Complex, Atal Bihari Vajpayee Hall on Friday, September 27. The programme themed “Tourism and jobs: A better future for all”, was organised by the district administration in collaboration with the Tourism Department and Malpe Development Committee.

The minister said that the Udupi district has ample opportunities for tourism development. For this purpose, a task force will be formed to identify and prepare a ‘vision document’ on all the tourist attractions in all taluks of the district.

He added that locals should be given a greater chance of employment while developing tourism in the district.

Delivering the keynote address, Udupi Deputy Commissioner G Jagadeesh said that the tourism department should focus not only on the tourists but also on employment creation and the locals in tourism. “We have the solid responsibility to grow the tourism industry in the district,” he said.

Udupi MLA Raghupati Bhat, in his presidential address, compared Udupi’s beaches to those of Goa. “Udupi’s beaches are much cleaner and tourists are attracted to this city because of the temples, the Tulunadu culture and the beaches. Soon, more developmental projects will be undertaken and Udupi will become a tourist hub,” he said.

Tourism Department Assistant Director Chandrashekhar Naik welcomed the gathering. CMC Commissioner Anand C Kallolikar proposed a vote of thanks.

District Panchayat president Dinakar Babu, Kundapur MLA Haladi Srinivas Shetty, Karkala MLA V Sunil Kumar, Kapu MLA Lalaji R Mendan, Byndoor MLA B M Sukumar Shetty, Taluk Panchayat president Neetha Gururaj Poojary, District Panchayat members Gitanjali Suvarna, Shilpa G Suvarna, Suresh Batavade, MRG group President K. Prakash Shetty and others were present.

Udupi District Review Meeting

The decision to form a Udupi District Tourism Task Force, in order to develop Udupi’s tourism industry, was taken by Minister of Home Department Basavaraj Bommai at a district progress review meeting held at Dr VS Acharya Auditorium on Friday, September 27.

At the meeting, Bommai said government officials, local experts, tourism industry experts, entrepreneurs, and investors have been made a part of the task force.

The minister also instructed the Zilla Panchayat CEO to hold a meeting and issue a report regarding the construction of a house that had been stopped due to lack of funds.

Reviewing the stone-crushers’ problems, Bommai directed the Forest, Revenue, and other departments to address their concerns by September 30.

The minister, who advised officials to act responsibly in their constituencies, said that if the problems in the district were resolved, the general public would have confidence in the administration. “A mature solution can only be found when you have a proper understanding of the problem. All the problems of the district will be solved if all the departmental officers act positively and provide services to the general public. The authorities should act in accordance with the law,” he added.

Bommai further promised to provide protection to the authorities in case of any difficulty while rendering services to the general public.

Minister Basavaraja Bommai also said that Udupi was a role model for other districts and hence, should respond immediately to the problems of the people with a good intention.
