Udupi: The district police, on June 7, arrested Neelaguli Padmanabha, a former Naxalite for his failure to appear before the court in connection with the 2004 and 2005 cases despite notices being served to him. Neelaguli was arrested outside the Udupi court and produced before the JMFC court in Kundapur.
The district Superintendent of Police, in a media release, stated that there were two non-bailable warrant cases (NBC) and two Long Pending Cases (LPC) against Neelaguli Padmanabha. The police detained him in these cases.
A group of 6 Naxalite men had damaged a Forest Department bridge near Hanja, Madamakki village under the Amasebail Police Station limits in Kundapura taluk on September 30, 2004. In the other case as well, the Naxals including Padmanabha were charged with damaging the two bridges belonging to the Forest Department on June 24, 2005.
The Kundapura JMFC court issued a non-bailable warrant against Padmanabha as he did not appear before the court for hearing in the two cases. The police arrested him when he came to the local court in connection with a murder case and produced him before the Kundapura JMFC court. The court has remanded him to 14 days judicial custody, said Laxman Nimbargi, SP of Udupi district.
