Udupi: Jayamala, Udupi District in-charge Minister and State Minister for Women and Child Development commented on the Supreme Court’s judgement on allowing women of all ages into the Sabarimala temple and called it a historic one.
She commented that with this verdict, the Supreme Court has given justice to women. “It is a matter of great happiness and women will be grateful to the judges,” said the actor turned politicians.
It may be recalled that Jayamala had stirred up a controversy many years ago by claiming that she had gained entry into the sanctum sanctorum of the shrine of the celibate God in 1986 along with her husband.
In 2006, a famed astrologer, P Unnikrishnan Panicker, conducted a temple-centric assignment called ‘Devaprasnam’ and declared having found signs of a woman’s entry into the temple sometime ago. Close on the heels of this, the actor has claimed that she had entered the temple, which hurt the sentiments of many.
Subsequently, Jayamala admitted that she had entered the temple way back in 1986. A complaint was filed in this regard and case was on in Kerala High Court. However, the high court quashed the charge sheet filed by the police on the basis of astrological findings in 2012.
