Sufficient funds for natural calamity relief released: RV Deshpande

Udupi: The coastal districts have already experienced difficult flood situations recently and talking on these lines, state Revenue Minister RV Deshpande said that there is no dearth of funds and sufficient grants have been released to respective Deputy Commissioners of two districts under natural calamity relief fund.

Addressing a review meeting at DC court hall, he said that the amount will be transferred to the Tahshildar to distribute to the affected families and also take up immediate repairs of damaged roads etc.

While directing officials to not delay visits to natural calamity-hit areas, he ordered the Deputy Commissioner to conduct review meeting at least once a week to assess work related to natural calamity relief.

“During the month of June and July there could be more natural calamities and the officials should not leave their respective departments without the permission of the deputy commissioner,” the minister ordered and also directed the DC to issue show-cause notice to the officials who remain absent during the crucial meets.

Urban Development minister U T Khader, Udupi MLA Raghupathy Bhatkal, Kaup MLA Lalaji Mendon, ZP President Dinakar Babu, Vice President Sheela Shetty, member Janardhan Thonse, CEO Shivanand Kapasi, Assistant Commissioner Bhunalan and officials from various departments were present during the review meeting.

Calamity relief of Rs 10.75 lacs granted to 17 families

Earlier in the day, Deshpande distributed calamity relief amount for partial losses and full losses in the district owing to the calamities that resulted out of massive rains across the state. An amount of Rs. 10.75 lacs was granted to 17 families here.

Stating that the relief fund compensation amount, disbursed as per the union government norms, for complete or partial loss due to disaster is comparatively lesser in Karnataka State, Deshpande said that he would hold discussions with the Finance department officials to increase the same.

The various departments are visiting all the affected places in the state and taking account of partial losses as well as full losses due to natural disaster. In the state, a total amount of Rs. 5 lacs (Rs 4 lacs from the fund of Natural Calamity fund and Rs. One lac from the state government) is given towards loss of life, he said.

Kaup MLA Lalaji Mendon, Deputy Commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis, Kundapur AC Bhubalan, ZP CEO Shivanand Kapasi, Udyavar Gram Panchayat President Sugandhi Shekar, Udupi Tahsildar Pradeep Kurdekar and other among were present.
