Student from Oman conned by agents promising admission at Manipal varsity

Udupi: A student from Oman who came to Manipal to pursue B Com course was conned by travel agents promising him to get admission in Manipal University.

According to Superintendent of Police Dr. Sanjeev M Patil, a student from the Sultanate of Oman called Murthan Nadim said Al Rawahi had approached Manipal Unversity for admission to B.Com. However, the authorities later found that he had been duped by an agent with a fake letter of admission.

He had come to India on a student visa and had paid an agent USD 6600 as fees. As per the Manipal University recommendations Udupi Police is getting his student visa cancelled. He has been asked to leave India in 3 days with exit permit.

Student Murthad Nadim said Al Rawahi will be going to lodge a complaint once he lands in Sultanate of Oman. It is not known whether he was duped by an agent in Oman or in India. Further investigations are on.
