Udupi: Coming down heavily on the state government’s adamancy to celebrate Tipu Jayanthi, Opposition Leader in State Legislative Council Kota Srinivas Poojary said that the state government has been trying to destabilise law and order by holding the celebration that has been opposed by the majority.
Speaking to media persons in Udupi on Monday, November 5, Kota Srinivas Poojary said that the coalition government in the state is all set to celebrate Tipu Jayanthi and in this regard, he said, he has written a letter to the CM requesting him not to celebrate the event.
“Tipu was anti-Kannada and anti-Hindu. He had slaughtered Hindus in Mysuru and Coorg,” he said adding that the Congress government had started the celebration when Siddaramaiah was the CM. “The event had sparked violence in the state, yet the then CM went ahead celebrating the event. Eventually, the Congress was taught a lesson,” he said.
Poojary said that the BJP condemns the decision to celebrate the birth anniversary of Tipu by the state government. Chief Minister Kumaraswamy, he said should end the celebration this year and if the government forces the celebration even this year, the BJP will stage a severe protest across the state, he warned and added that names of the BJP leaders should not be printed into the invitation for Tipu Jayanthi.
