Special police team will be formed to curb illegal activities in district: SP

Udupi: Special Police teams will be formed to curb illegal activities like sand mining, matka and others, said Nisha James, Superintendent of Police.

In her first phone-in programme on Friday, March 1, after she assumed office, SP Nisha James said that additional responsibilities are given to the police to keep vigil on the illegal activities. As per the latest directions from the court, she said after capturing the illegal sand transportation vehicles, the police will hand over the case to Mines and Geology department to furnish the details to the court.

She said that under the new beat system the PSI should take responsibility in case there are illegal activities going on in his limits. If he fails to curb it then the special district level police officers will take care of such illegal activities and action will be initiated against the police officers who fail to tackle the illegal activities.

A caller from Billadi near Brahmavar said that Billadi Gram Panchayat president has been using number plate of other car on his car. He is using car bearing registration number KA 20 MB 4856, which belongs to Santhosh Shetty. The SP said that action will be taken against the user of the car as per the motor vehicle act.

Several calls received by the SP during the phone-in programme were related to traffic rule violation. Vehicles parking on the service road of NH 66, overspeed of vehicles near city and service bus station etc.

During the first phone-in programme by newly appointed SP Nisha James received 23 calls from the public in the district.
