Slum dwellers at Nittoor will soon be shifted: DC Muddumohan

Udupi: Deputy Commissioner Dr Muddumohan has said that slum dwellers who have been residing in hutments constructed unauthorisedly at Nittoor in Udupi CMC limits would be shifted after identifying a suitable land for heir stay.

The DC who visited the slum areas in Nittoor on Tuesday July 8, observed that the unhygienic conditions in the region may lead to a spurt in Malaria  cases and directed the District Health and Family Welfare Officer to visit the place every week and take sufficient precautionary measures.

The DC while noting the fact that around 200 people have made  the area their place of stay since 20 years, also  pointed out that  there was fear of  accidents with the National Highway too located nearby. He said the residents would be shifted to some other location at the earliest.

As of now, he directed the CMC Commissioner to make arrangements for lavatory and drinking water supply to the residents.

The DC who  came to know that several children residing in the area studied in nearby schools and Anganavadis urged the Education Department officials to enlighten them on safety aspects.

CMC Commissioner Srikanth Rao, DDPI Nagendra Madhyastha, BEO Nagesh Shanbagh, District Health and Family Welfare Officer Dr Ramachandra Bairi, Deputy Director of Women and Child Welfare Department Rajendra Bekal, CDPO Sadananda,  and other officials were present.
