Udupi: In a tragic incident, a 22-year-old man succumbed to his suicide attempt at Nayampalli near Kallianpur on Monday, September 17 after he was assaulted with a footwear by his girlfriend’s father.
The deceased has been identified as Sooraj Suvarna, son of Suresh and a resident of Nayampalli.
Police sources say that for the past one year, Sooraj was in a relationship with a girl which her father Veerupaksha opposed. On August 15, the girl’s father approached Sooraj at Curtain Paradise Shop near Lions Circle in Udupi where he worked, hurled abuses at the latter and slapped him with a footwear in front of everyone. This insult was too much for Sooraj to bear which is why he, reportedly, consumed rat poison on Saturday, September 15, near Kemthur Vishnamurthy Temple.
Sooraj was rushed immediately to the KMC Hospital by his family members, but he died on Monday, September 17, without responding to the treatment.
The Udupi Town Police have registered a case.
