Mangaluru: The Forensic Science Lab (FSL) report concluding that Shiroor Math seer Lakshmivara Theertha Swamiji’s death was due to natural causes has evoked a sense of suspicion among his followers.
The seer had died on July 17, merely a couple of days after he showed symptoms of food poisoning. The death of the seer had evoked a lot of questions and his devotees had raised suspicion over the cause of his death. Several theories had made the rounds about possibilities of the seer having been poisoned to death.
The main reason for the suspicion was that the Swamiji was healthy a couple of days before his death and had also participated in a public event at the Shiroor Math. Before his death, he did make some explosive statements about the heads of the Ashta Maths, specifically stating that most of the seers who are supposed to observe celibacy have fathered children. This apart, the seer was also ready to take up legal battle against the rest of the seers over the custody of the antique idols of Gods that belonged to the Shiroor Math. Besides this, several details about the business undertakings of the seer and individuals owing him hefty amounts also came to light, making the death of the seer seem all the more mysterious.
His followers had organised several meetings and had been demanding a fair probe into the case. However, the FSL report has now come as a shock to them.
Shiroor Abhimani Samiti Honorary President and Kemaru Sandeepani Math Seer Esha Vittala Swamiji, speaking to NewsKarnataka said that there is ambiguity in the media reports. “No one report that appeared in the media is similar to the other. We do not plan to give any opinion about the FSL report till the SP or the officials concerned make an official announcement. We will plan our course of action later,” said Kemaru seer.
