Set up waste unit in every village by Dec: Panchayat Prez Dinakar Babu-1Udupi: Every village panchayat in Udupi district should set up a waste unit by the end of December, said District Panchayat President Dinakar Babu.

He was speaking at the monthly KDP meeting held at the District Panchayat Hall on Tuesday, February 11. This is already being implemented in most of the Gram Panchayats in the district. However, this was the setback in the Udupi Taluk Gram Panchayat, which he suggested should be corrected immediately.

"Priority for rural hygiene should be checked if a toilet is not available for the public. It is important to have a toilet system and use it. Due to the Single Pit Toilet, there is a Health Problem," he said. Babu also suggested that a double pit toilet be preferred over the following days. "When constructing a new home, be sure to make a double pit toilet. During the allotment of door number, this must be ensured," he added.

District Panchayat Chief Planning Officer Srinivas Rao said that the people should be aware of this matter and spread awareness.

The DDPI informed the meeting that motivation camps have been set up in all taluks for students with learning disabilities and that these camps will be further enhanced to benefit the students.

The District Health Office said that there were 6 cases of malaria and 5 cases of chikungunya. Awareness programmes for disease control are being conducted in the area.

The distribution of fruit saplings under the Horticulture Department is 90% and 150 hectares are under development. In the surrounding areas of Kundapur taluk, Hemmadi, a large number of farmers are growing Sevanthige flowers and this year, the yield has been low.

Social Justice Committee Chairperson Shobha Puthran demanded that farmers should be compensated in this regard.

Most of the gram panchayats in the district are using electricity and have not paid bills to MESCOM. It was suggested at the meeting that this should be paid immediately. Dinakar Babu said that pending payment of electricity bills in the village panchayats should be checked.

District Panchayat Vice President Sheela Shetty, Education and Health Standing Committee President Pratap Hegde Maradi, Chief Executive Officer Preethi Gehlot, District Panchayat Deputy Secretary Kiran Fadnaker and Planning Director Gurudat Dutt were also present.
