bhat sandUdupi: The ban on sand extraction will be lifted soon after the elections, said Udupi MLA Raghupathy Bhat and Shobha Karandlaje, incumbent MP and the BJP’s candidate from the Udupi-Chikkamagaluru Lok Sabha constituency on Wednesday, April 10.

They were addressing a gathering of the Sand Protest Committee members who had announced that they would be boycotting the elections several days ago, in a press meet.

Assuring them that the sand mining ban would be lifted after the elections, Bhat and Shobha Karandlaje pleaded with the committee members not to boycott the polls and to cast their votes without fail.

They said that the Deputy Commissioner (DC) and district administration have assured of lifting the ban soon after the elections and added that the union government and the state government had approved the same.

The committee then decided to wait till the polling day and warned that they would stage a protest if sand extraction was not allowed by April 19.

Zilla Panchayat President Dinakar Babu, Lokesh Medon, Shyam Sundar, Sathyjith Birthi of the Sand Protest Committee and various association leaders were present.
