Rs 320 crore sanctioned for KUIDFC projects at Udupi: Pramod Madhwaraj

Udupi: KUIDFC projects worth Rs 320 crores have been sanctioned for Udupi constituency. Udupi, Malpe and Manipal bus stands will be developed soon, informed Pramod Madhwaraj, District in-charge and Minister of Fisheries, Sports and Youth Empowerment.

Addressing media persons at Udupi Press Club, Pramod Madhwaraj said that CRF works under Udupi Assembly Constituency for the year 2016/17, will develop Hosuru Sooralu-Peja Mangooru Road spending Rs 7 crore, Uppoor – Havenje – Kolalgiri Road with Rs 4 crore, Ambagilu – Shivalli – Manipal Road with Rs 4 crore, Santhekatte – Kemmannu – Paduthonse Road and Pethri –Cherkadi Road with Rs 4 crore and also construct bridge across Seeta River at Horlali in Udupi taluk. Rs 35 crore and Rs 50 crore respectively will be spent on water supply and sewerage improvements for Udupi Town. Rs 8 crore has been allotted for Kundapura for water supply, he stated.

Accordingly, a revised proposal was submitted to government of Karnataka and the Cabinet has approved and the financial interventions for sub projects. It was also decided that investments provided under AMRUT for Udupi city shall be converged to KIUWMIP and combined comprehensive proposal shall be prepared and implemented by KUIDFC/ULBs. The revised allocations are for Udupi town for dam at Shimbra with Rs. 33 crore, water supply Rs 101.20 crore and sewerage Rs185 crore.

Madhwaraj said that Udupi municipal areas may be broadly divided into 8 sewerage zones. The developments in these zones will be taken up in 2 phases namely Phase-1 and Phase II. Zone I to Zone 6 has been taken under Zone 1 which covers the areas Udupi city, Kinnimulky, Kannarpadi, Kadiuali, Volakad, Udupi town, Ambalpady, Ajjarkad, thenkapet, Siribeedu and Kalsanka. Zone 2 covers Chitpady, Badagubettu, Kunjibettu, parts of Volakad, Indira Nagar, Kasturi Nagar, Kadiyali and Bailur area. Zone 3 covers Manipal south area Saralabettu, Ishwara Nagara, Indrali and Indiranagar. Zone 4 situated in Manipal North of the town covers Mooduperampally, Saralabettu, Ishwarnagar, Manipal and Sagri. Zone 5 situated in North of the city covers Santhekatte, Gopalpura, Mudabettu and Subramanya Nagar area. Zone 6 is situated in the west of the city which covers Malpe.

There is a proposal to construct 5 new sewage networks on about 142.60 kms by using PVC pipes and RCC/NP – 3 pipes, he said.

On query from mediapersons, Pramod Madhwaraj said that a KSRTC bus stand at Bannanje at the cost of Rs 10 crores has been allotted and work is under progress for the new KSRTC bus stand. JNURM bus stand at old DDPI office will be constructed at the cost of Rs. 4 crores, he added.

The conflict between private and JNURM city service buses time table will be sorted out at the earliest with consultation of KSRTC officials, he concluded.

When reporters said that due to the fear of assault on drivers and conductors of JNURM buses, these staff is not ready to run buses, Pramod informed that a special meeting will be called to solve the problems.

Answering a question on the development of Udupi district Hospital, Pramod said that he was quite busy after the visit of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. “I do not know if the MOU has been signed. I will look into the matter,” he said.

Meenakshi Madhav Bannanje, President of Udupi CMC and B. Narasimhamoorthy, President of Udupi Development Authority were present during the press meet.
